Smile [How-To] Downgrade from 2.0 to 1.1.4

This guide is for beta users as well as for future reference.

Step 1 - Downgrading iTunes

To downgrade your iPod, you must get iTunes 7.5, which can be directly downloaded

Here for windows.

or

Here for mac

Once Downloaded, uninstall your current version via control panel, reboot, and then install this iTunes.

*Troubleshooting*
Some people are having a problem where iTunes is saying the iTunes Library.itl was created by a newer iTunes, so here's how to fix:

Go to:
XP:
Code:
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\My Documents\My Music\iTunes
or
VISTA:
Code:
C:\Users\USERNAME\Music\iTunes
and rename iTunes Library.itl to iTunes Library old.itl. This is temporary while you install 7.5. You may delete the one created by 7.5 when u want to go back to 7.7 and restore back your old iTunes Library.itl which will give you all your songs back as well.

Step 2 - Downloading 1.1.4

Obviously, to downgrade to 1.1.4, you need the firmware(ipsw) file. That can be directly downloaded Here.

Step 3 - Putting the iPod into DFU mode manually

In order to downgrade, you must put the iPod into Device Firmware Upgrade mode manually. This is done like so:

1. Plug your iPod into the computer, and open up iTunes (7.5)
2. Hold both the home and power buttons until the device turns off
3. EXACTLY one second after the iPod turns off, release the sleep/wake button, holding the home button still ( the apple logo SHOULD NOT BE ON ).
4. In about 20 seconds, you will see your iPod appear in iTunes, but the screen on your iPod will still be off. You are now in DFU mode.
5. RELEASE the home button as soon as your iPod appears iTunes. If you fail to do so, your iPod will simply go back into recovery mode.

Step 4 - Restoring

Once into DFU mode, its easy. Just do a shift + restore in iTunes and choose 1.1.4.

Other Info ( Important )

Note that you CANNOT use programs like ZiPhone, iPhuc, iLiberty, and others that put your iPod into DFU mode automatically, because they, at least at this moment, are not compatible with 2.0. It will not detect your iPod!!!!

MACINTOSH USERS
Guide for you

Bam! You're back to 1.1.4. We will be able to come back if wanted/needed. This will suffice for now though.

And if this guide helped, and you got it to work then:...wait for it...

I'm not sure if this should be posted for the masses, I mean it might not hurt anything but does secrecy kill people?

EDIT: more than likely this won't hurt anything, I'm just saying perhaps we should use caution.

AND buddy, don't forget who told ya all that in the first place
