Hello.
I am happy to inform you, that the Audio Input pins of the iPod Touch are active, and can be used for connecting any Audio source (like an external Mic, your CD-player, FM radio, etc) for recording. This also opens the doors for VoIP applications!! The way I tested it: Modded an old docking cable and connected the Line-In pins to a source of Audio signal. Then used the Voice recorder App originally written for the iPhone. The dock pinouts are here: http://ipodlinux.org/Dock_Connector I have photos of the setup if anybody is interested. Cheers!

Hi there,
That sounds really cool. It would be great if you can post the photos of the set-up here. I want to know how you managed to make it work. Cheers |

There is one pic showing the setup. just click on the thumbnail.
in case you mean schematics, then it is simple: acc to the docking station page you just connect Gnd (Ground) to Gnd, and the source to Line-In R, ev, Line-In L. The resistors I only used to lower the output level of the Marantz Layla, as it gives signal over 2-3Vpp. You do not need it for test purposes. In order to connect a Mic, either we use a preamplifier, or maybe there is even an extra Mic pin, with a sensitivity of some mV. |
